Dentistry has come a long way in the last decade. There was a time when restoring an implant was something only a specialist could do. Complex impressions and models were needed, and it could take up to a month or more to get the final restoration. Today, that is unthinkable. With CEREC chairside software, we can obtain an accurate and detailed impression in less than 10 minutes. Typically this can happen at the time of implant uncovery, which greatly increases the convenience for the patient, and saves you valuable chair time.   By following a specific but straight forward protocol, an in-office CAD/CAM restoration can be fabricated and ready for insertion in less than and hour and a half. Some cases call for a full contour screw retained restoration, while others are better suited for a custom abutment and cement retained crown. The CEREC system has dedicated workflows for either option.

In this case, the patient presented with an implant in the tooth #18 position that was fully integrated and ready to restore. A CEREC impression was made, digital design completed and full contour screw-retained crown was fabricated out of and IPS e.max CAD A16 block.

After characterization, the restoration was bonded to a titanium base (Tibase). This is a fully supported process using products from Ivoclar, and additional training videos will follow. The completed restoration was inserted in the mouth and torqued down to spec. The screw access hole was closed using Ivoclar Tetric EvoCeram resin, which is a direct match to the e.max shade. This gives the restoration a completely lifelike look. Finally, the restoration can be seen on radiograph, which illustrates the implant – tibase interface fully seated.
